The Facts!

A recent survey conducted on arrival statistics to South Africa definitely got me thinking.

According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, world-wide, Travel & Tourism activity is expected to grow by 4.3% per annum in real terms between 2008 and 2017 accounting for 1 in 12 jobs globally.

The current top 5 tourism spenders are USA , Germany , Japan , China and UK accounting for almost half of tourism expenditure worldwide.

If you feed a country with tourists, investment, good service and lots of passion the outcome should be a successful tourism industry!

So, why is it that the number of German visitors to SA decreased in the 1 st half of 2007 when twice as many people from Germany visit AFRICA on an annual basis to that of the UK – surely now is the time for some answers!

It is a well known fact that Europeans are very price conscious and as South Africa is an expensive destination to reach from Europe – travellers expect value for money once they get here. Yet, instead they are faced with high food prices, exorbitant telephone costs (some of the highest in the world), escalating electricity costs with rolling blackouts and expensive accommodation.

With one of the world's biggest sporting events on our doorstep, now is the time to rally together and offer the world South Africa, with it's spectacular scenery, excellent game reserves, friendly people and honest to goodness ‘good value for money'!

After all, as stated by the World Travel & Tourism Council, “New Tourism is a new type of coherent partnership between the private sector and public authorities. It is geared to delivering commercially successful products – but in a way that ensures benefits for everyone”.

Africa Adventure Travel Directory 2008/2009

The deadline has been reached! - We are in the final stages of compiling the printed Africa Adventure™ Travel Directory 2008 / 2009 and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who took out an additional advertisement enabling us to print our much sought after publication.

INDABA 2008 will see the launch of the 10 year Anniversary edition of our printed Africa Adventure Travel Directory with lots of information about the Mitsubishi Africa Adventure Cape to Cape Expedition.

Exciting times ahead, that's for sure! To keep up with the all the action, we in consultation our advertisers, decided to change the layout and format of our sought-after printed publication to a more pocket-sized version.

Of course you know which format we are talking about, the much loved and widely used 210mmx105mm DL size.

We really believe that this change benefits all parties involved.

Following are the 5 reasons why we think so:

1. The pocket sized format would be easier for the traveller to carry, therefore will be used even more.

2. The proposed layout would be easier for the traveller to navigate, therefore finding information would be easier.

3. The current print run of 10 000 copies could be increased by a third, to 15 000 copies which means much more exposure for your business.

4. The information provided would be restructured, but still contain the essential details about your establishment.

5. And last but not least, if you have taken out an additional advertisement, we would list your own website address instead of the link to your advertisement on our websites.

During May / June 2007, all our members will receive a free copy together with a form to order additional copies for your clients.

On the Lighter Side

"Cheshire Cat, asked Alice, would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here? That depends a good deal on where you want to go, said the cat. I don't much care where, said Alice. Then it doesn't matter which way you go, said the cat"- Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) English Writer (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - 1865)
